Yiyili Powers defeat Waringarri Crows by one point in down to the wire clash

From a nail-biter to a thrashing, the East Kimberley Football League’s latest round produced contrasting matches.

The clash between Yiyili Powers and the Waringarri Crows went down to the wire, with the Yiyili Powers winning by one point, 9.11 (65) to 10.4 (64).

But the Ord River Magpies smashed the Port Wyndham Crocs 18.12 (120) to 6.7 (43).

James Woodhouse was a powerhouse for Ord River, booting five of the Magpies’ 18 goals.

Jake Stacey and Matt Welburn extended the Magpies’ huge lead, kicking three goals a piece, with Timo Diederichsen, Nic Lukies and Maurice Simon slotting two goals each and Lane Mandin rounding out the Magpies’ goal scorers with one goal.

The Crocs put up a good fight in the opening quarter, being only five points behind at the first siren.

However by the end of the first half the Magpies had run away with the game leading by 43 points.

The Kundat Djaru Cats mauled the Wirrimanu Tigers on Friday afternoon, with the Kundat Cats’ accuracy pushing them onto victory.

The Tigers had a rocky start, with the Cats leading by 31 points at quarter time.

The Tigers fought to close the gap but it wasn’t enough to hold back the Cats who won 4.7 (90) to 9.6 (60).

Yardgee Dockers had another win, defeating the Kururrungku Roos at Halls Creek Oval on Friday night by 26 points, 10.10 (70) to 8.6 (54).

The Halls Creek Hawks took on the Kunuurra Demons at the Demons’ home turf on Saturday afternoon, winning 11.15 (81) to 8.2 (50).
