Will Lindsey Vonn race this weekend at Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria?

Lindsey Vonn will be weighing her options depending on course conditions before deciding whether to race in Saturday’s World Cup super-G in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria, where heavy rain this week has played havoc with the race schedule.

On Thursday a training run for Sunday’s downhill was cancelled and Friday’s session was limited to the top of the course because the rest of the track was deemed unsafe by race organizers.

Vonn has not raced since winning a super-G Dec. 16 in Val d’Isere, France. She pulled out of another super-G scheduled the following day to rest a knee she described as “a bit sore.” She returned to the U.S. and didn’t really miss anything in the interim because until this week, the women were racing slalom and giant slalom. Vonn primarily races downhill and super-G.

“It’s a difficult situation right now with the way the snow is and how they’ve prepared the course,” Vonn told reporters on Friday. “I’m not sure if we’re going to be able to get a race off. They’re definitely trying as hard as they can. The top is good but the bottom just is not safe to race. I’m going to have to see how things look and make a decision tomorrow.”

Vonn’s win in December was the 78th of her career, putting her only eight wins behind Ingemar Stenmark’s all-time record, but she has made it clear that her top priority this season is getting to the PyeongChang Olympics feeling healthy and strong.
