Wild Mandurah goose chase ends in dramatic double arrest

Police have arrested a 27-year-old Mandurah man who led police on a wild goose chase through local streets on Thursday night.

Mandurah Detectives allege about 8.55pm a stolen silver Audi A7 was seen being driven on Old Coast Road in Halls Head.

An attempt to stop the vehicle was made; however, police allege the driver failed to stop and sped away.

A high-speed chase was aborted for safety reasons.

An hour later the same stolen vehicle was spotted being driven north on Lakes Road in Parklands.

Police again attempted to stop the vehicle; however, it will be alleged he once again failed to stop and accelerated away.

The vehicle was monitored by a Police Air Wing crew on board a police helicopter which had been called into the area.

The vehicle later crashed into a fence on Banksiadale Gate in Lakelands.

The driver fled on foot towards the shopping centre; however, he was tracked by the Police Air Wing crew and was arrested shortly after by officers from the Regional Operations Group.

The passenger was also arrested nearby after he was located hiding by the Police Air Wing crew.

The driver, a 27-year-old man from Mandurah, has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle, two counts of stealing, two counts of failing to stop, two counts of reckless driving, breach of bail and having no authority to drive.

He was refused bail and is next due to appear in the same court on Friday, December 18.
