Caterpillar dealer WesTrac has touted the company’s latest underground mining vehicles during the Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum this week in light of demand for lower carbon emissions machines.
The Cat AD63 underground mining truck was recently released by Caterpillar and boasts a series of upgrades over its predecessor, the Cat AD60, including additional payload, powertrain performance and serviceability.
The Cat AD63 features a Cat C27 engine and was endorsed together with the new Cat R2900 XE underground loader which features a diesel electric powertrain, with both vehicles adhering to strict EU Stage V emissions standards.
WesTrac chief executive Jarvas Croome said customers have expressed increasing interest in vehicle performance efficiently and carbon emissions in response to strengthening emission standards and environmental consciousness.
“These (vehicles) are EU Stage V compliant, which whilst not mandated here, does provide better quality air,” he said.
“We’re seeing lots more interest in terms of ways to reduce fuel consumption and become more energy efficient and that’s the direction most organizations taking.”
This year’s mining forum set a record number of attendees, despite Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s accommodation crisis, with 2620 people registered for the three-day talkfest.
Mr Croome said this year’s forum has provided a great opportunity to build new networks and strengthen existing connections, whilst showcasing a new series of Caterpillar products.
“This is definitely one of the strongest (Diggers & Dealers) that we’ve seen for many years and I think it’s a really great opportunity for the community of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and fantastic for industry to get together,” he said.
“We’ve really been blessed with the relationship with our customers throughout this region for both surface and underground products.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to just talk to our customers, see where their plans are and see where we can help them in the future and position the right product for them as grow their mines.”
WesTrac’s Cat R2900G underground loader has been displayed outside the Goldfields Arts Centre during the forum.
WesTrac is also the gold sponsor of this year’s gala dinner to be held on Wednesday to wrap up the three day forum.
