Wembley Police fine Perth driver $1000 for taking photo of dog under new mobile phone penalties

A Perth driver is in the doghouse with WA Police after officers caught them taking a photo of a pet pooch sitting on their lap whilst driving.

Publicly shaming the driver in a hilarious social media post, Wembley Police shared a photo of the culprit’s $1000 fine while telling Twitter users: “This is what happens when take photos of your dog who is on your lap whilst driving”.

Police caught sight of the risky stunt in Peppermint Grove just before 11am on September 3, on Stirling Highway near McNeil Street.

On top of the hefty fine, the driver of the Nissan Pulsar was also slapped with four demerit points for the aggravated use of a mobile phone whilst driving.

The humorous tweet was shared this afternoon.
