Javi Gracia had nothing but praise for goalscorers Craig Cathcart and Tom Cleverley, who both scored in Watford’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace.

Defender Cathcart scored for both sides – an own goal in the 38th minute and the equaliser in the second half – before Cleverley produced a fantastic winning volley.

Manager Gracia only had kind words for the pair after Watford went four away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

He told Sky Sports: “This season, we are scoring very good goals. Today, Tom scored an amazing goal and the first one as well from a corner with good movements and finishing. I’m very proud of my players.

“He [Cathcart] knows I trust him. With own goals or other situations, it is not the most important. His attitude, his character, his passion, his ambition is important to me, like the rest of the players. After conceding the goal, to be able to turn the score around, is very good for the team.

“After a long period injured, I know he [Cleverley] has worked very hard and he is getting all the rewards he deserves because it wasn’t easy for him. But in the last games, he has showed what he is able to do. He’s an important player for the team.”

Watford were inspired to a second-half comeback at Selhurst Park and while Gracia admitted it was an even encounter, he was pleased with the belief from his side.

“In the first minutes, we started very well. We created one clear chance to score, we didn’t take it and after, the game was equal because all the games we have played against this team are always has been very equal,” he added.

“I think the most important thing today was belief. We are doing a lot of things well and in the second half, we’ve got the reward with two goals and with a great victory.”
