Watch Me Dance strong up front to run third in listed Belgravia Stakes for Albany trainer Steve Wolfe

Trainer Steve Wolfe was delighted with the return of his star three-year-old Watch Me Dance in the $100,000 listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Albany galloper Watch Me Dance ran a brave third to Magical Dream after jumping a $21 chance in the three-year-old feature race.

A curve ball was thrown into calculations in the lead-up to the race with raging favourite and expected leader Clairvoyance scratched that morning.

Jockey Shaun McGruddy sent Watch Me Dance straight to the front and controlled the tempo before they were headed at the 100m mark by Bob Peters-owned duo Magical Dream and Mystical View.

Magical Dream won by 1.3 lengths with Mystical View second and Watch Me Dance third.

Wolfe said he was impressed with the first-up run of the I’m All The Talk filly.

“She was super, she only had a few gallops and the race was run upside down but I’m over the moon with her performance,” he said.

“I think if she had an extra gallop she could have won or even come second.

“She is on song and will head to the Burgess Queen now then on to the Champion Fillies all things being equal.

“Coming from behind is her go but I was impressed with how she went leading.”

Watch Me Dance’s full brother Hear Me Sing won a 850m trial in impressive fashion under a strong hold from McGruddy by just under a length on Monday.

Promising three-year-old Bragwell also put together a strong performance on Saturday, up against the older horses.

Bragwell broke his maiden status last start and is yet to missing a placing from three career runs for Wolfe.

He sat better than midfield but was unable to reel in Comes a Time in the home straight, finishing second beaten 1.1 lengths.

Dark Assault, trained by Albany’s Roy Rogers, finished last in the Belgravia Stakes after racing keenly for a large part of the race for jockey Jason Brown.
