WA records more than 3000 new daily COVID cases as 12 new local cases confirmed for Great Southern

Twelve new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the Great Southern region on Wednesday as WA recorded more than 3500 new daily local cases for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

WA Heath on Wednesday confirmed there were 3594 new cases Statewide to 8pm on Tuesday, pushing the State’s active case load to 15,750.

There were 67 people with COVID-19 in hospital but none of the patients were being treated in intensive care.

The death toll during the current Omicron wave remains at three after a woman in her 40s with underlying health conditions died with the virus at the weekend.

The number of active cases in the Great Southern region was 35 on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday morning, 12 COVID-19 exposure sites across Albany, Mt Barker, Denmark, Walpole and Kojonup were listed on the Healthy WA website.

Albany tourist hotspots including Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, the Museum of the Great Southern, Six Degrees and BIG4 Emu Beach Holiday Park were confirmed as exposure sites on Tuesday afternoon.

The locations were visited by a confirmed case of COVID-19 at various times from Friday, March 4, to Sunday, March, 6.

The Walpole Rest Point Caravan Park and Mt Barker gift shop Lola Loves Lloyd were also listed.

People who visited these locations during the reported times are advised to monitor for symptoms unless directly advised otherwise by the Department of Health.

If symptoms develop, get tested and isolate.
