WA Police investigate alleged ‘date rape’ needle attack in Northbridge

An owner of a Northbridge club where a teenager feared she was stabbed with a needle claims CCTV does not show anyone grabbing her arm as she walked through the venue on Friday evening.

“We have watched our CCTV footage and there is nothing that we can see on the vision that shows what she claimed happened and we have provided that to police,” a Universal Bar owner said today.

Detectives have been investigating a report by 18-year-old Shayna that she believed she was injected with a stupefying substance seconds after she entered the William Street venue about 11.30pm.

CCTV from the club does show the teen clutch her right arm and turn to look behind her as she nears the bathroom.

Several minutes later security staff are called to the bathroom and help carry her outside.

Police have not received the results of toxicology tests done after she was taken to hospital so it is not yet known if she had any drug in her system.

Despite reports yesterday that another teenage girl and a man were also treated at Royal Perth Hospital after alleged needle attacks in Northbridge on the weekend, The West Australian has been told police have no records of those hospital attendances and have not received any other similar complaints.

Anyone with information about what happened is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
