Vasco da Gama’s first visit to Geraldton

Geraldton will welcome the 1220 person capacity cruise ship Vasco da Gama for the first time on January 24.

The ship is expected at Geraldton port at 8am on its first voyage down the West Australian coast after departing from Bali on January 19.

The cruise ship’s guests will spend eight hours in Geraldton before continuing south to Fremantle.

The 220 metre Vasco da Gama will more than double the capacity of Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ tours along the West Australian coastline.

The Vasco Da Gama will make port calls to popular regional destinations including Broome, Geraldton, Kuri Bay, Albany and Esperance while it remains home-ported in Fremantle.

Ports Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the expansion of cruises along the West Australian coastline was evidence McGowan Government’s efforts to market WA as a cruise destination were paying off.

“This has a strong impact on our local and regional economy, supporting WA tourism businesses and jobs while giving visitors the opportunity to explore Perth and regional WA,” she said.
