Tyler takes next step in cricket career

The hard work Tyler King has put into progressing his cricket over the years is paying off, after being selected into Cricket WA’s Under 19 State development squad.

The emerging Bunbury cricket talent is now travelling to Perth for training with his eyes set on touring with the State Under 19 team when the national championships roll around in December.

The championships will provide an exciting platform for showcasing his skills as part of the top age group of Australian Cricket’s pathways system.

In the meantime, King has the chance to experience the challenge of playing cricket in India this September as part of a mentoring program.

“I’ve been training really hard to progress further through the State systems, through the WACA,” King said.

“And (also) progress in other spaces across WA to progress my cricket further,” Tyler said.

“It’s been a lot of work over a long period of time of slow progress, from when I was sort of 15.

“I was sort of overlooked every year and each year I’ve grown bit by bit. I’ve sort of come out of my shell this year.

“I’m in a position where I’ve furthered my cricket by progressing small steps consistently over time and now I’m at the standard they want me at.”

King, who is notable for being one of six selections for the inaugural Gillette Academy in 2020, has been climbing cricket’s ladder with support from the South West Academy of Sport.
