Two young men charged after allegedly assaulting older victim and breaking his jaw on York Street in Albany

Two young men have been charged with grievous bodily harm after allegedly assaulting a man and breaking his jaw on York Street in Albany on February 18.

Albany Detectives revealed on Friday that they had charged a 18-year-old man and 17-year-old boy in relation to a serious assault on the city’s main street.

Police say about 10.15pm, the two accused men were walking along York Street when they approached the victim and assaulted him.

The 46-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, including a broken jaw.

An 18-year-old man from Mount Melville was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and is set to appear in Albany Magistrates Court on April 4.

A 17-year-old boy from Spencer Park was also charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and is next due in Albany Children’s Court on April 1.

Albany Detectives said inquiries into the incident are ongoing and were calling on information from the community.

It is believed a number of community members came to the aide of the victim and detectives wish to speak to those individuals.
