Two seriously injured in Brisbane brawl

A man has head injuries and may lose his hand and another man has head injuries after a mass brawl on Brisbane’s southside.

Police say the fight, involving about 40 men armed with various weapons including bats and poles, erupted on Daw Road, Runcorn, about 10.30pm on Monday.

Officers arriving on the scene found a 36-year-old man with significant hand, neck and head injuries.

Some of the men allegedly involved in the brawl tried to flee in a four-wheel-drive but were stopped by the dog squad on a nearby street.

Seven men, aged between 22 and 38, were arrested while another man was apprehended on a nearby street.

Queensland Ambulance Service medical director Dr Stephen Rashford says three men were rushed to hospital for treatment, including two with serious injuries.

He said the 36-year-old’s hand injury was a “limb-threatening wound”.

Another male in his 30s suffered head injuries, Dr Rashford said, while a third was treated for minor injuries.

Detectives said all eight men who were arrested have since been released as investigations continue.

Witnesses with information about the brawl, or who can identify those involved, are being urged to contact police.
