Two men have been rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital after sustaining significant burns in structure fires across Perth this afternoon.
The fires began within minutes of each other at a commercial property in Malaga and at a garage between two adjoining Bayswater homes.
It’s understood West Coast Metals Recycling Pty was the first building to catch fire at 3.45pm, with material inside the business tipped as the ignition point.
WA Police were called in to direct traffic at the Camboon Road intersection near the Truganina Road business.
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation was also called to the scene to conduct air quality monitoring after concerns over asbestos contamination were raised.
St John Ambulance WA paramedics were assessing another man at the scene with minor burns and said he would likely need to go to hospital as well.
Crews from 20 DFES units attended the blaze and a spokesman said it was under control about 4.30pm
The second fire was reported about 3.55pm, at a property along Constance Street, near Kenmure Street in Bayswater.
St John Ambulance took a man, aged in his 50s, to Fiona Stanley Hospital’s burns unit, due to the seriousness of his condition.
It’s understood a garage was gutted and the rear property was damaged. The total damage bill is still unknown.
