Two children diagnosed with coronavirus overnight in WA

Two children have been diagnosed with COVID-19 overnight, boosting the State’s total number of active cases to 55 — one higher than NSW.

The kids — aged one and eight-years-old — are both in hotel quarantine after returning from Iraq and Russia with their families.

The two new infections mean WA now has more active cases than NSW for the first time since July 14.

However, the State’s caseload is entirely confined to people in hotel quarantine and the numbers are inflated by COVID-infected crew members from sheep carrier Al Messilah and cargo ship Key Integrity.

NSW recorded two new cases of locally acquired coronavirus cases today, both linked to the Oran Park community cluster in Sydney’s South West.

Victoria meanwhile went a second straight day with no new cases and residents in that State are preparing to be released from lockdown at midnight tonight.
