Trump backs down from declaring a national emergency over border wall

US President Donald Trump says he won’t declare a national emergency in order to fund a border wall with Mexico. President Trump has returned to Washington following a trip to Texas to visit border workers in an endeavour to follow through on his campaign promise. The nation’s partial government shutdown is now its 21st day as the stalemate between Republicans and Democrats continues over the $5US billion needed for the wall. About 800,000 federal workers have been furloughed without pay until a resolution can be made.
