Truck driver ignored warning lights in Northbridge tunnel crash

VideoThe trucks load was too tall to fit in the tunnel, causing damage to the roof.

Main Roads has released vision of a truck ignoring warning lights and ploughing into the Northbridge tunnel this afternoon.

Carrying an excavator the truck driver chooses to dismiss the flashing amber lights, indicating an issue with height, as it attempted to make it’s way through the tunnel, westbound.

The incident happened about midday today, causing debris to fall on to other cars passing through.

Fortunately no one was injured but traffic is still impacted by the collision.

As of 4.30pm the westbound entry to the tunnel from East Parade remained closed and that westbound traffic had been reduced to a single lane.

Eastbound traffic has been unaffected.

All three lanes were initially closed off for the best part of four hours.
