Former Swan Districts assistant and WA women’s under-18 coach Trent Cooper has taken the reins of Fremantle’s AFLW side.
The appointment was announced by the Dockers today after inaugural coach Michelle Cowan opted against signing a new deal with the club.
Cooper coached the Swans colts to a premiership in 2014 and has been with the WA Football Commission’s female high performance outfit since 2017.
He said there were a number of targets he had already identified which the club would look to draft in October.
Fremantle have finished seventh in the opening two years of the AFLW competition, but improved their record to 3-4 this season after winning only one game the previous year.
“The WAFC’s high performance program includes a lot of the mature age players who Freo will be looking to draft for the 2019 season,” Cooper said.
“And then specifically with the 18s, some of the talent coming through is quite exciting and no doubt some of those girls will be on the list for next year.”
