Top teams look destined for perfect season as finals loom

The latest round of the Geraldton Hockey Association continued with the top teams flexing their muscles with the finals fast approaching.

In the Men’s A-Grade, Casuals look destined to finish the season unbeaten after putting seven goals past Murchison in a big victory.

Peter Cottle and Dan Golding scored doubles to help their side win their 14th game in a row and continue setting the pace for the competition that no one else can seem to match.

Australs won a tight 2-1 victory over the Saints to move to third at the Saints’ expense as goals for Kyle Rainer and Kane Trenaman bettered Zac McGowan’s effort.

Yacht Club caused a huge upset as they crushed the second-placed Rovers 5-0 to move off the bottom of the ladder.

Corin Berrigan scored twice while Ben Ingle, Courtney McLeod and Sunni Hunt also got themselves on the scoresheet.

In the Women’s A-Grade, the Cardinals also maintained their perfect season as Jess Guidice-Nain’s effort made the difference in their 1-0 win over Australs.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Swans remain winless after a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Murchison as Abbey Stribley scored twice and Darcie Newman and Grace Royce had one apiece.

In the Men’s A-Reserve, league leaders Casuals were held to a 1-1 draw as Angus Grant and Stephan Palmer cancelled each other out.

Saints crushed Murchison in the other match as Carter Pardoe scored four goals in the 9-0 thumping.

In Women’s A-Reserve, Swans claimed their first win of the season in emphatic fashion putting five past the Australs as Jenny and Jess Puglia both scored doubles.

Saints Gold increased their advantage at the top with a 2-0 win over the Cardinals thanks to a double from Jamie Murray while Saints Black were held to a 0-0 draw with Murchison.

Yacht Club smashed the Vets 8-0 as Millie Jensen scored a hat-trick to cement their grip on the fourth spot.

The final round of the regular season will get underway Thursday night with the Women’s A-Reserve matches.
