A BMX rider from Holland is nursing a knee injury after a bizarre crash involving a Tokyo Olympics official.
Niek Kimmann was in his first warm-up lap on Monday during a training session ahead of Thursday’s competition when he crashed into an official who somehow found themselves on the race track.

“So this is what happened today. Hit an official that wanted to cross the second straight,” Kimmann wrote on his Instagram page. “Hope the official is OK. My knee is sore, but will do my best to be ready for Thursday! Thanks everyone for the messages, appreciate it!”
According to reports multiple people had yelled and shouted ‘watch out’ just moments before the Dutch rider’s collision.
Kimmann has since acknowledged the efforts of his fellow riders French Sylvain Andre and Switzerland’s David Graf in also trying to warn him of the impending danger.
“Thanks Sylvain and David for screaming,” he said.
“Unfortunately it was too late, but appreciate the fact that we’re competitors on the track, but all care about each other off the track (as how it’s supposed to be).”
There are unconfirmed reports the official was concussed and taken to hospital. But the footage of the dramatic collision has quickly gone viral.
