Toddler struck, killed by taxi on Gold Coast

A toddler has died after being run over by a taxi in a tragic accident on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

The one-year-old boy had just got out of the maxi-taxi with his 38-year-old aunt and three young siblings when he was killed, police say.

The family had just returned from a shopping trip when the boy somehow fell under a wheel as the taxi was driving away.

The one-year-old sadly died at the scene.

“Due to the injuries there was pretty much zero chance of any medical intervention chance of being successful,” Insp Jim Plowman told Seven News.

It’s believed the toddler’s aunt was paying the cab fare moments before the child was injured.

The boy’s parents, who are out of the country, have been notified and are believed to be on their way home.

Both the taxi drive and the toddler’s distressed aunt were taken to hospital suffering shock.

The toddler’s siblings remain in the care of other relatives.
