Three story lines to watch at the Colorado high school state track meet

The 2018 Colorado high school state track meet runs Thursday through Saturday for all classes at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. Here are three story lines to watch heading into the weekend:

No. 1 — Four-time state champion Emily Sloan is the heavy favorite once again in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. The Rock Canyon senior stormed to a state record in the 300 at last weekend’s Continental League championships, with her time of 40.77 breaking the mark of 41.18 (Carly Lester, Rocky Mountain, 2014) and giving the Oregon commit the second-best time in the nation in the event.

No. 2 — Expect plenty of competitive fireworks in the two biggest classifications of girls high jump. In Class 5A, defending team champion Grandview boasts defending event champion Kylee Harr (CU commit) as well as Alisha Davis, while Rock Canyon sophomore Riley Masten will be in the mix as well. And in Class 4A, keep an eye on Silver Creek’s Rylee Anderson (Kansas), the three-time defending champion.

No. 3 — Who will be crowned as the fastest dude in Colorado? The boys’ 100-meter dash is going to be a wide-open competition. Fountain-Fort Carson’s Deondre Ritter holds the fastest seed time at 10.64 seconds, but Regis Jesuit’s Zion Gordon (10.67) and Cherry Creek’s Dimitri Stanley (CU football commit, 10.70) are right on his heels. So is Doherty’s Brian Mosley (10.77), Rock Canyon’s Devin Cadena (10.77) and Cherry Creek’s Marcus Miller (10.80).
