These Denver-area Valentine’s Day restaurant deals will make you swoon — The Know

The 12 of Hearts from Robin Chocolates. (Christy Pearson.)

People have a love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. Some embrace the fun side of the rose-tinted holiday — single or not — while others prefer to celebrate with their significant other quietly.

No matter which you choose, as grownups we can just be glad the holiday doesn’t involve decorated shoe boxes and wondering whether your eighth-grade crush likes you back. Though you’re more likely to be pressed to find a spot that’s not running a holiday special, here are a few the metro-area’s unique offerings. This Valentine’s Day, restaurants have stepped up to offer someone you love (even if that’s just yourself) delicious ways to enjoy the day.

Precision Pours Coffee

Precision Pours takes coffee geekdom to a whole new level with its meticulous preparation of your morning beverage. For Valentine’s Day, it has introduced the Heart Beet Mocha, made with juice from red beets that’s been reduced to create a rich syrup, then combined with dark chocolate to create a red-hued mocha. Topped creatively with a heart pattern, it’s a simple token to show you care. Also on the menu: The Red Hot Mocha combines red hot candy syrup and real cinnamon with dark chocolate for a spicier riff on the classic drink. Cost: less than $10. 1030 E. South Boulder Road, Louisville; 303-834-5071.

Marcella’s

LoHi’s newest Italian-American eatery has a menu of special dishes being served for V-Day, but they’re also offering a special prix-fixe menu for ladies celebrating with their BFFs. Their Galentine’s Day deal includes a prosecco toast to start, followed by a parade of small plates, including braised veal meatball, bruschetta, margherita pizza, and melted pecorino. The restaurant also will offer liters of red and white sangria to share, plus tiramisu for dessert. Cost: $40 apiece. 801 Central St., Denver; 720-484-5484; marcellasrestaurant.com

Kachina

Kachina Southwestern Grill is offering Aztec Chocolate for Two, with exotico blanco, vida mezcal, abuelita chocolate, cinnamon, ancho, and vanilla, along with a surf and turf menu option with Colorado Wagyu and diver scallops. After dinner, stop by neighboring cocktail lounge Poka Lola, which is hosting a 1970s themed Valentine’s Day disco party, complete with Polaroid cameras to capture the moment. Cost: $35-$50 per person. Multiple locations; kachinadenver.com

Santo

Santo, Chef Hosea Rosenberg’s homage to his New Mexico roots, is known for its breakfast burritos that have a cult following. But for Valentine’s Day, the regular menu has been nixed. Instead, enjoy a special three-course menu featuring scallops & trumpet mushrooms, sunchoke bisque, Guinea hen with hominy stuffing, and venison loin with oven-roasted carrots and huckleberry. Cost: $55 per person, with drink pairings available for an extra $25 per person. 1265 Alpine Ave., Boulder; 303-442-6100; santoboulder.com

The city of Loveland (of course)

Loveland — aka America’s Sweetheart City — transforms for Valentine’s Day, hosting everything from group weddings to the Loveland Fire & Ice festival (the largest Valentine’s Day celebration in the world). It also offers a Sweetheart 4-Mile Race, custom love notes hanging from lamp posts, and even a Valentine re-mailing program (where your honey will get a Valentine postmarked from Loveland). Loveland brewery Grimm Brothers marks the holiday with its love potion, The Bleeding Heart, a Cherry Chocolate Brown lager that is available from Saturday, Feb. 3, until supplies run out at local restaurants, bars and liquor stores (Matador, Old Chicago, Loveland Taphouse and the Flipside, among others). On your way home, stop by Longmont’s Robin Chocolates, where you can get a Twelve of Hearts or Six of Hearts box of award-winning handmade chocolates in flavors like Coffee Liqueur Caramel, Chocolate Caramel Fleur de Sel, Rosemary Caramel, Raspberry, Dulcey Blonde, and Port Wine Reduction. ci.loveland.co.us

Coperta

Celebrate amore Italian-style: Coperta’s Valentine’s Day menu will be offered from Saturday, Feb. 10, through Feb. 14. The menu features wood-fired tuna puttanesca ($22) and a braised short-rib lasagna for two, plus salad, for $39. Sibling team Paul and Aileen Reilly wrap Coperta’s guests in a warm embrace, just as its name (Italian for blanket) suggests. Cost: $39 and up. 400 E. 20th Ave., Denver, 720-749-4666; copertadenver.com

Sweet Cooie’s Ice Cream and Confectionery

Grownups aren’t the only ones who want to celebrate the season of love; kids want in on the action, too. What better way to celebrate than to take the family out for ice cream? On Valentine’s Day, Sweet Cooie’s, an old-school ice cream and sweets shop, also celebrates its first birthday, with live jazz along with free ice cream cake. It also offers Valentine’s Gift Sets (a mug stuffed with goodies) and Truffles for Teacher, and handmade box sets of handmade Jewel Box Truffles — six of which will have a golden ticket inside with an ice cream social as the prize. 3506 12th Ave., Denver, 720-550-7140; sweetcooies.com

At Home

For those who prefer the coziness of home on V-Day, there needn’t be a lack of deliciousness.
