Amid the death and desperation of the Auschwitz concentration camp, two inmates, David Wisnia and Helen Spitzer, found love.
They would eventually make their way out of the camp separately. Mr. Wisnia, determined to put Europe behind him, joined the United States Army and eventually settled down in Pennsylvania.
Ms. Spitzer would become Ms. Tichauer. Alongside her husband, she devoted her life to humanitarian causes across the world before making New York her home base.
On today’s episode, the story of how they found each other — first within the camp and again, seven decades later.
