Danielle Spencer said her teenage sons were mortified when they found out she would strip down on Channel 7’s The All New Monty: Guys and Girls to raise breast cancer awareness.
The 51-year-old actor shares two kids Tennyson, 14, and Charles, 16, with ex-husband Russell Crowe and she said that although they were apprehensive at first, they support her.
“My sons are a little nervous about it. They were like, ‘Really? You’re what? Oh my God.’ They’ll probably try and hide it from everybody they know but they’ve come to terms with it now,” Spencer said.
“It was like you’ll be ‘nude’ nude? No, just breasts, but, you know, there is a moment in the routine where everything comes out but then I explained what it was for, and they’ve been really supportive.
“I talked about breast cancer, the whole thing, getting the message out there in this kind of fun, wacky way and everyone’s been really supportive.”
Spencer will join 14 others saying “yes” to undress, including Dunsborough-raised former AFL player and model Tom Derickx, Olympic gold medal winning breaststroke swimmer Leisel Jones, model Erin Holland, ex-cricketer Michael Slater and Home and Away star Sam Frost.
She said her mother Julie’s own battle with breast cancer inspired her to do the show, which is hosted by Shane Jacobsen and Georgie Parker with choreographer Todd McKenney putting the celebs through their paces.
“I decided to do Monty because my mother’s had breast cancer along with several other friends and family so it’s been quite present in my life for a number of years,” she said.
“I thought it would be fun, for one thing, and it’s such a great cause. If I can do anything to shed some kind of light and awareness on breast cancer, then I want to do it.”
The All New Monty premieres next month on Seven.
