Terrence Clive McGibbon held in jail after allegedly attacking a man with a metal pole at Bassendean bottle shop

A 41-year-old man has faced Perth Magistrates Court after being charged with a string of violent assaults, which left one of his alleged victims in hospital.

Terrence Clive McGibbon was arrested in Midland on Friday and charged with grievous bodily harm, robbery, and possessing a prohibited drug.

Mr McGibbon appeared via audio-link and denied requests to speak to a duty lawyer, instead opting to stay behind bars until he could speak to his own lawyer.

He said he was living a “nightmare”.

“I don’t remember nothing,” he told the court.

Police allege that at about 3:30pm Mr McGibbon went to a BWS bottle shop on Railway Parade in Bassendean where he assaulted a 44-year-old man with a metal pole.

His alleged victim was conveyed to Royal Perth Hospital with serious head and leg injuries.

It is further alleged that at around 5:25pm, a 42-year-old man was sitting near the corner of Guildford Road and Wilson Road when he was approached by Mr McGibbon.

After a short conversation, it’s claimed Mr McGibbon attempted to take the victim’s bike and a verbal altercation occurred. Police said Mr McGibbon then punched the victim to the nose before fleeing the area on the bike.

The 41-year-old wasn’t asked to enter a plea but said he understood his charges.

He didn’t apply for a bail application claiming he “wouldn’t get it anyway”.

Mr McGibbon was remanded in custody and he’s expected to be back in court on September 21.
