Teen allegedly assaults cop outside Maccas/KFC in late night Perth CBD attack

A teenager has been charged after allegedly attacking an off-duty police officer he had earlier confronted at a train station, leaving the cop unconscious and with fractured facial bones outside a fast food restaurant.

West Australian Police say the 16-year-old boy approached the 36-year-old officer at Perth Train Station about 11.15pm on Saturday and an altercation ensued, but it was stopped by Public Transport Authority officers.

It is further alleged the teen again approached the officer a short time later outside a McDonalds/KFC on William Street and kicked him to the head, causing him to be knocked unconscious and suffer a fractured eye socket and nose.

The officer was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

The boy was later arrested at a property in Kingsley and charged with one count of intent to do grievous bodily harm does grievous bodily harm to another.

He will appear before the Perth Children’s Court later on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, WA Police Minister Paul Papalia announced the latest summer “crime blitz” to provide increased police patrols between December and March.

He spoke with reporters in Northbridge – one of a number of key hot spots and entertainment precincts to be saturated with police as part of the operation including more mounted, canine, bike and beat patrols.
