Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz has upset world No.7 Matteo Berrettini to reach the semi-finals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.
The 18-year-old hit 24 winners in a 6-1 6-7 (7-2) 7-6 (7-5) victory to reach the last four of an ATP 500 event for the first time.
“This is one of my best performances on Tour so far,” Alcaraz said. “I am really happy for that and it was amazing.
“I just tried to play aggressively all the time. In the tough moments it was important to be able to do that.”
Alcaraz, who beat world No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round of the US Open in September, will face Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals after the second seed beat Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4 3-6 6-3.
The other semi-final sees American qualifier Frances Tiafoe take on Jannik Sinner.
Tiafoe backed up his win over Tsitsipas by defeating Diego Schwartzman, the No.8 seed, 6-4 7-6 (8-6).
Sinner beat No.4 seed Casper Ruud 7-5 6-1 to advance.
