A team of six maths whizzes from Tambrey Primary School have won a competition between four primary schools in the Karratha region.
The Divisible Diamonds, made up of students Joel Morgan, 10, Tarquin Forwood, 11, Charlie Lonnie, 11, Samuel England, 11 , Sam Lonnie, 11, and Kaine Gardner, 11, took part in the 2022 Have Sum Fun Mathematics Competition on August 27.
Run by the Mathematics Association of WA, the competition was held at the Karratha Senior High School library and had eight teams from four primary schools test their mental skills over four rounds of hard problem solving.
In the end, Tambrey Primary School’s Divisible Diamonds came home in first on 24 points ahead of St Paul’s Primary Schools’ The Math Saints on 19 and rounding out the top three was Tambrey’s Crazy Calculus on 16.
Tambrey Primary School teacher Ngaire Satre said it was a close competition this year.
“It’s done by the Mathematics Association of Western Australia and it’s held every year regionally and in the city as well for primary schools and they also have a MAWA high school competition as well,” she said.
Ms Satre said the competitors had a great time testing themselves.
“They were very, very excited and were very tired at the end of it after the four rounds of questions,” she said.
She said to have eight teams taking part was amazing.
