Swan Districts topple Peel to qualify for WAFL colts grand final

Swan Districts livewire and West Coast academy prospect Jarrod Cameron has a chance to show his skills on the big stage after the Swans qualified for this year’s colts grand final.

The younger brother of Brisbane Lion Charlie, Cameron helped the Swans to a 22-point win over Peel Thunder in the preliminary final at Fremantle Oval today.

Cameron (seven disposals, eight tackles) struggled to get his hands on the football but was one of a number of Swans forwards who were applying pressure and suffocating the Thunder’s ball use on their way to a 10.12 (72) to 7.8 (50) victory.

Swans midfielder Riley Garcia was best on ground with 27 disposals and two handy first-term goals, while draft prospect Patrick Farrant (one goal) and exciting forward Atem Deng (13 disposals, seven tackles and a goal) gave the crowd a number of highlights with their pace and high-flying antics.

Peel Thunder’s James Sturrock was his side’s best with 24 touches and seven tackles, with his performance coming just as he prepares to attend the State Draft Combine next month.

Teammates Jarvis Pina (20 disposals) and Tyrone Thorne (three goals) were also handy in a losing side.

Swan Districts will now take on minor premiers Subiaco in the first WAFL colts grand final to be played at Optus Stadium next Sunday.

The match will be shown live on Channel Seven.
