Strong return to racing at Katanning track

Racing returned to the dirt at the Katanning Speedway Club for the first meeting of the 2020-21 season and attracted a strong field last month.

The V8 Dirt Modifieds made their first appearance at the venue and they were one of six divisions to hit the track on the opening night.

Daniel Kennedy had a great night in his V8 dirt modified car, going through the night undefeated.

Kennedy was able to claim the final ahead of Brad Cooper and Kristen Falconbridge and also proved too strong for his three rivals in the heat racing.

In the All-Star Sprints division, Matt Boyd also made it a clean sweep on the night, winning the two heat races along with the final.

Boyd walked away victorious in the final over Daniel Beamish while Brendan Rayner was third.

Brad Ludlow saved his best run of the night until the final after finishing third and fifth in a six-car field in the two qualifying heats.

Ludlow crossed the line first in the final, defeating Brad Wright and Damien Birch.

A consistent night of racing paid off for Bill Stocks in the V8 NWS division final. Stocks finished second in the opening heat before taking out the second heat and then beat Matt Vincent and Bailey Beckingham in the final.

In the super modfieds, Wayne Bingham made his way up the podium throughout the night to claim the final over Lance Beaver and Mark Broome.

Earlier in the night, Bingham finished third and second in the two heat races before his final success.

Jeffery Veersma claimed the super 6s final ahead of John Ing and Josh Curtin after a win and second in his two heat races.

Katanning’s next meet is on March 6.
