Denmark Running Club will hold a new event on Sunday, when the Denmark Half Marathon rolls up to Lights Beach.
More than 100 runners are expected to join in the inaugural event, with 95 entries already received by yesterday.
There is a 21km half marathon starting and finishing at Lights Beach, while 10km and 2km kids’ runs are also available.
The Denmark club is hosting this event, believing it can boost tourism, with competitors coming down from as far as Perth.
DRC committee member Rosie Smith said they were surprised by the level of support for the inaugural year.
“We’re blown away by how many people are keen to come and run our magnificent coastal trails,” she said. “We thought it would be a great opportunity to create a trail-running event, which has the magic combination of Denmark trails, stunning coastal scenery and accessible runs for people of all ages … the active community in Denmark has flagged for some time now that there is a lot of potential for adventure sport events in the area and we have the capacity and wider community support to make it happen.
“Denmark Running Club has a dedicated core of volunteers who’ve been planning the event for some time, so we expect things to run pretty smoothly on the day.”
Event organisers encourage runners to sign up before the day but registrations will be taken on the morning of the event.
The 2km race starts at 8am, the half marathon is at 8.30am and the 10km race at 8.40am.
