Storage options to complement the kitchen

Kitchens are the home for many a household item, so it is essential for the area to be well equipped with ample storage.

The Maker Designer Kitchens General Manager Lincoln Trager said overhead cabinets were a cost-effective choice for additional space, thanks to their ability to conceal clutter and provide a smooth finish to an area.

“Not only providing a handy storage option, they give a great balance of form and function, complementing large kitchens by incorporating extra design elements or bringing some colour into an otherwise plain wall,” he said.

“Overheads will suit almost any kitchen design style, whether it be a modern, minimalist design or a more traditional country-style kitchen.”

Additionally, when overhead cabinets are built to reach the ceiling, they provide the advantage of not allowing dust to settle on top.

There are also plenty of options available when it comes to storage access.

“Different handles or ‘touch to open’ styles mean you can still express some individuality,” Mr Trager said.

Other space saving options include high-quality drawer systems, pull-out pantries, bins and corner solutions.

Mr Trager said if your kitchen contained limited space for a pantry, pull-out pantries like the Hafele tandem pantry were a good option.

With pull-out and rotational options, Mr Trager said corner units like the Hafele LeMans were good for difficult-to-access spaces.

Mr Trager said open shelving was also a popular option, providing an illusion of space.

“Often suited to a traditional country-style or Hamptons kitchen, open shelving allows items to be on display, such as crockery or accessories, which can add some warmth and personality to the room,” he said.

Mr Trager said given the number of accessories available to make tighter spaces easier to access, it was a good idea to seek expert advice on what would be right option for your kitchen.

“It’s important to utilise a kitchen designer who can recommend the best option to work with your space,” he said.

“They can help integrate these into your designs to get the most out of your small space – you might be surprised at what can work.”
