Something for everyone at Goldfields Pride Festival

There will be something for everyone at this year’s Goldfields Pride Festival set to be celebrated across the final week of October.

From poetry slam nights to drag bingo and late-night dance parties, Goldfields Pride chairperson Em Davis said the queer community would be well catered for while celebrating their identity.

Starting on October 27, a slam poetry night will start with an open mic evening for people aged 12 to 18, before two travelling performers — Yusef and Layla from Pupperotica — take to the stage.

The following evening Drag Bingo will be hosted at Beaten Track Brewery, before the main event on Saturday, October 29.

Davis said this would include DJ sets until 3am, performances from Perth-based drag artists, and chill-out spots with food and drinks all night.

To wind down on Sunday, De Bernales is hosting an all ages, family friendly Drag Brunch from 11am, before the Goldfields Pride closing party at the Beaten Track Brewery at 3pm.

“The love that’s gone into organising all of this really shines through on the night and the quality of the entertainers is really top-notch so I think it’s a guaranteed good time,” Davis said.

“There’s also a real mixed bag of events so hopefully everybody can find something that’s up their alley.”

Davis said the events were about celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community and providing a safe place to socialise and have fun.

“Connection and community are so important for LGBTQIA+ folks, for better mental health and improved quality of life,” they said.

“All of this ripples out to create a richer, more vibrant and diverse culture for all.

“Everybody is welcome; friends, family, and allies.”

More information about each event can be found online at the Goldfields Pride website, where tickets are also available.
