Mr Abdulrahim, 36, also known as “The Punisher”, was shot eight times at his cousin’s funeral in broad daylight on June 25.

He was driving his luxury Mercedes during a funeral procession along Box Forest Rd in Fawkner when a gunman pulled up in a Mazda and shot him multiple times in the chest.

In an attempt to get help, Mr Abdulrahim drove himself to the Fawkner police station before being rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with critical injuries.

The two men who were occupants of the Mazda fled the scene before crashing into a pole and fire hydrant near Sydney Rd.

The offenders escaped their crashed vehicle, with one attempting to hide in a KFC bin, while the second man carjacked a Ford Territory wagon from a mother and her child.

“Next thing I know my door’s being pulled open and there’s a gun in my face,” the woman said.

The carjacker drove 13km to Epping, where he was captured on CCTV footage walking the streets.

The pair’s alleged getaway car was found alight in a suburb nearby a short time later.

Just 10 days prior to the attack, one of the offenders was captured on CCTV footage buying two petrol cans that were found in the Mazda from Bunnings.

Police allege the cans were planned to be used to destroy the vehicle after the shooting.

On Wednesday, police released images of the two men who were described as Middle Eastern in appearance, with medium builds and between the ages of 18-20.
