Singer-songwriter Michael Ward to serenade Esperance crowds next month

Singer-songwriter Michael Ward is gearing up to take his latest songs on the road and enjoy some adventures in Esperance next month.

Ward will perform at Esperance’s newest pub 33 Degrees on April 8, and will serenade the Lucky Bay Brewing crowd on April 10.

The regional tour will show off Ward’s latest single, as well as some unreleased original tracks and what he described as “adjusted” covers to suit his style.

“It’s to kind of get out there, get a bit more of my groove and kind of see how the songs resonate with different people and then build things up for when my EP comes out,” he said.

“I do normally share some stories (and) tales of either how songs were written or some of the experiences I’ve had involving music when I play as well that people normally get a good kick out of so it’ll be cool to kind of share that with everyone down there as well.”

Ward told the Kalgoorlie Miner he would also be looking to check out the local surf, and a few hikes during his time in Esperance.

“I quite like the adventure of touring. You go out to different towns, you see different things, you climb different mountains and you find different places,” he said.

“We are such a beautiful State I think and kind of getting out and enjoying it . . . life’s too short to be sitting in front of a TV I think.”

Out of Perth, Ward said he has played in bands for most of his music career but has recently been trying his hand at some solo creations.

“I’ve been in bands for probably 25 years, but this is the first time as a primarily solo project,” he said.

“In bands, I’ve normally sort of been the bass guitarist in various sorts of formats so this is kind of exciting for me because it really is my project and my terms.”

Ward said he also hoped to bring his show to Kalgoorlie-Boulder in the near future.
