Seven West Media dominate Western Australian football awards

Seven West Media cleaned up at the WA Football Media Awards, taking home 14 awards on Tuesday night.

Steve Butler – Bertram Williams: the greatest footy star you’ve never heard of

The Sunday Times sports editor and The West Australian feature writer Glen Quartermain was the star of the print awards, claiming the George Grljusich Award for the top overall football news story for his exclusive report on Polly Farmer’s CTE diagnosis, which made headlines around the nation. Quartermain was also awarded the Jack Lee Best Print News Story for the same article.

The judges said the story was “a genuine exclusive on one of the biggest football stories of the year that had numerous ramifications for not just football in WA, but in Australia. The award-winning story centres on a WA icon, but becomes so much more as the story goes on”.

Jordan McArdle: From Amateur to the AFL – A true underdog story

The West Australian columnist and Channel 7 sports reporter Ryan Daniels claimed the Geoff Christian Medal, which is awarded annually to a person who has performed at a consistently high standard throughout the year in either: print, TV, radio or photography.
