Serial Kalgoorlie driving offender caught behind the wheel five times over limit

A man’s two-year gap in serious offences was his only saving grace this week when he was convicted of driving with a blood alcohol level five times the legal limit.

Jarred Blowes, 30, did not appear at Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and was convicted in his absence for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid licence, and failing to stop for police.

Blowes was driving in Williamstown on July 11 when police tried to pull him over using their warning lights and siren.

Blowes tried to evade police by continuing to drive and trying to run away through bushland after eventually pulling over.

After a search of bushland by police, Blowes eventually surrendered himself and returned a blood alcohol level of 0.250.

At the same time, police learned Blowes had had his licence permanently revoked in 2018 for driving without a valid licence.

In the past, Blowes had been convicted four times for driving without a valid licence, once for driving under the influence of alcohol, and for reckless driving.

Magistrate Brie Ayling said a gap in convictions since 2018 saved him from more serious consequences.

“The reading was particularly high,” she said.

“It’s .25 which is a reading which begs the belief really that anyone could actually function by manipulating a vehicle at all.

“It’s self evident that if someone blew a reading of that level they would be incapable to having proper control of the vehicle.”

Blowes was fined a total of $3300, which Ms Ayling hoped would have the desired effect.
