Second man charged over gangland murder

A second man has been charged over his alleged role in a gangland murder eight years ago, days after a high-ranking bikie was dramatically arrested on a Sydney street.

Comanchero sergeant-at-arms Tarek Zahed was arrested on Sunday after returning to Sydney from Melbourne.

Police used bean bag rounds to shoot out the windows of the black BMW Zahed was driving and arrest him at Edgecliff in Sydney’s east.

He faced Downing Centre Local Court on Monday, charged with the murder of 29-year-old Youssef Assoum, who was stabbed and shot at Bankstown in December 2014.

Zahed survived an attempt on his own life in May after being shot 10 times as he left a gym in Sydney’s west alongside his younger brother Omar, who died.

Detectives attached to Taskforce Erebus, established to investigate gang-related homicides, have charged an alleged accessory after the fact to murder over Assoum’s death.

The 44-year-old arrested at a Georges Hall home early on Thursday is accused of trying to burn and destroy the victim’s car.

He has been refused bail to face Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.
