Second-busiest auction week of the year

Australia’s housing market has had its second-busiest week of the year, with more than 2800 homes going under the hammer across capital cities.

Of the 2837 homes auctioned this week, 74.5 per cent found new owners, preliminary CoreLogic data shows.

It compares with a final clearance rate of 73.6 per cent for 3206 homes auctioned in the previous week ending December 1.

Recent figures show those looking to sell remain in a strong position despite higher levels of supply, CoreLogic says.

In Melbourne this week, 75.3 per cent of 1491 homes taken to auction sold, while the preliminary clearance rate for Sydney was 78.1 per cent of 936 auctions.

Adelaide had the third busiest housing market outside Sydney and Melbourne, with 61.8 per cent of 146 properties going under the hammer clearing.

Houses again outperformed units across Australia’s combined capitals, 75.1 per cent to 72.7 per cent.
