Narrogin will get another crack at hosting their biggest thoroughbred race on the calendar, with the $70,000 Iron Jack Narrogin Cup (1900m) to be contested on Thursday.
On February 6 Narrogin Racing were set to run their major feature race but extreme heat in the metropolitan area forced meetings to be transferred and as a result the Narrogin meeting was moved to Belmont Park and held on a Monday.
The Narrogin Cup will be held on Thursday and has attracted a strong field of 10 runners, headlined by talented stayer Roman Flirt.
Roman Flirt will carry 60kg as top weight in the cup for metropolitan co-trainers Ben and Dan Peace and has the services of jockey Alan Kennedy.
The Pearce brothers will have a two-pronged attack in the race with Superior Smile also engaged.
Progressive type Blackwater Bay is entered for leading city trainer Adam Durrant and has the in-form Clint Johntson-Porter aboard.
Blackwater Bay has won his last two races in Mt Barker and Geraldton and has drawn ideally in gate five with 55kg on his back.
Veteran Wagin galloper Corporate Larrikin is also among the field for trainer Angela Smith but has drawn barrier 10.
After a strong run in the listed Grandstand Cup, Majinika will rate highly for jockey Jade McNaught and trainer Ricky Moss.
The Narrogin Cup is set for 5pm and is part of an eight-race card that starts at 1.17pm.
It will be a big week for Narrogin Racing, hosting their biggest harness meeting – the $30,000 Narrogin Pacing Cup (2662m) – on Saturday night.
The trots meeting is set to get underway at 6.25pm.
