It’s been nine years but the old gang is getting back together as Scream 5 has confirmed another original cast member — Courtney Cox will return.
The Friends alum will reprise her role as news reporter Gale Weathers in the upcoming film alongside her ex-husband David Arquette as Deptury Dewey Riley, Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott and Matthew Lillard who played Stu Macher, one of the masked killers.
Cox announced the news on Instagram by sharing an image of the movie’s Ghostface mask.
“I can’t wait to see this face again,” she wrote.
All of the films in the horror series were directed by Wes Craven who passed away in 2015.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct the fifth instalment and James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will write the screenplay.
“We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courtney,” said directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett in a press release.
“We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga.”
The Scream franchise has grossed over US$6 million at the box office worldwide since it premiered in 1996.
Scream is not the only 90’s series getting Cox’s attention.
The 55-year-old recently said she had been binge-watching Friends and admitted on the Jimmy Kimmel show she had very few specific memories of her time of the show.
“I just started season one. It’s really good!” Cox said.
“I don’t even remember even being on the show. I have such a bad memory.
“I remember loving obviously everybody there, and having fun, and I remember certain times in my life that I was there. But I don’t remember episodes. I would never pass. I fail every test.”
