“Putrid”, “pathetic” and “atrocious”.
Critics are lining up for the Perth Scorchers after Monday night’s record loss, but fans have aimed their anger at coach Adam Voges.
Rolled for just 94 – their worst ever performance away from Perth, the Scorchers were never in the hunt against the Adelaide Strikers as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals.
Commentators Brad Hodge and Andy Maher agreed the Scorchers line up needed work if they are to be competitive this Big Bash League season, but fans believe it’s Voges on the chopping block.
“Surely it’s time for Voges to go?” one fan pondered.
“If the Scorchers were an AFL team the coach would be sacked by lunchtime tomorrow. Time to go Adam Voges,” another commented.
“About time we consider looking at the head coach Adam Voges and hold him accountable for our embarrassing losses since we lost Langer,” another fan complained.
“Voges has to be on shaky ground,” one fan said.
Voges hasn’t inherited the same success now-Australian coach Justin Langer had as Scorchers mentor.
Under Voges, the Scorchers have finished eighth and sixth.
In contrast, the Scorchers were the most successful BBL franchise under Langer, finishing champions three times. The lowest finish during the Langer era was third in 2015-16.
“I have long been a defender of Adam Voges but the time has surely come to split the coaching role,” another fan commented.
“Let him focus on Warriors or whatever they are now called and appoint a new Scorchers coach. JL’s success in both roles has always been the exception rather than the rule.”
“Man, the glory days of when Langer was at the helm just hasn’t followed Voges for the Scorchers. Need a new approach maybe,” one fan pondered.
The Scorchers remain anchored at the bottom of the Big Bash League table, after just four wins last season.
