Russia holds Japanese consul over ‘spying’

Russia’s FSB federal security agency says it has detained a Japanese consul in Russia’s Pacific port city of Vladivostok for alleged espionage and declared him persona non grata, Russian news agencies report.

The FSB said the consul was caught receiving secret information on the effect of foreign sanctions on the economic situation in Russia’s far east.
