Ruckman Tom Hickey to make West Coast Eagles debut against Brisbane Lions

West Coast will field a new look forward line for the opening round clash against Brisbane, with confirmation that Josh Kennedy and Jamie Cripps are out.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson, speaking this morning, said Kennedy had not got up for this week and Cripps was still a couple of weeks away.

Stepping up are Oscar Allen, Jack Pettrucelle and Jarrad Brander, a trio with six AFL games between them.

Brander’s inclusion casts doubt over the fitness of key defender Tom Barrass, who missed Monday’s training session with a foot complaint.

Willie Rioli is also in doubt with a foot injury and with the retirement of Mark LeCras, it means the Eagles will line up with a vastly different forward line than the one seen in the grand final.

“He presented with a foot issue yesterday and we’re waiting on the results of some scans,” Simpson said of Rioli.

The premiership coach confirmed ruck recruit Tom Hickey would make his debut against the Lions.

More to come.
