Rovers suffer first defeat of GSSA men’s division one season after Polonia prevail in thrilling contest

Polonia defeated Rovers in a thrilling top of the table clash on Saturday night to claim top spot on the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s division one ladder.

The score was locked at nil-all at half time of the round six contest and both teams battled to gain the ascendancy in a captivating second half as Rovers’ Tom McKenzie and Michael Draper both hit the scoresheet.

However Polonia trio Nathan Woods, Archie Smith and Nathan Small each scored a goal to hand their side a thrilling 3-2 win.

The result was Rovers’ first defeat of the league season.

Meanwhile Sam Jackson fired Denmark to a comfortable victory over Royals with a five-goal haul on Saturday in men’s division one.

Despite goals from Royals’ Jonathon Masing, Jack John and Giresse Vuti, Denmark’s hero Jackson sealed the win with five goals while teammates Kai Thrupp-Probst, Cooper Gleeson and Nick Bah-Pike also found the back of the net in the 8-3 result.

Caledonians responded to their deflating loss to Polonia last week, brushing past Albany Bayswater with a commanding 7-1 victory.

Oliver Trichillo was on fire as he dispatched four goals and the talented striker was well supported by teammates Levi Clay, Doug Grant and Beau Timmer who also scored a goal each.

In the women’s division one competition on Friday night, Rovers thrashed Bayswater 10-1 and Mt Barker were also big winners over Denmark B 5-0.

Sonics went down 4-0 to Phoenix, Denmark A pipped Polonia 1-0, Rovers played out a thrilling contest to emerge 4-3 winners against Denmark C while Denmark D brushed aside Mt Barker 3-0.

In men’s division two, a Beau Dwyer-Adams brace helped Polonia thump Royals 5-1.

Lavesh Gaoneadry, Cole McKee and Cameron Spence all hit the score-sheet in the comfortable win.

Caledonians were helped to a 4-1 victory over Rovers B courtesy of two goals from Joseph Love.

Phoenix edged out Bayswater in an arm wrestle after both sides went into half-time scoreless.

A sole goal from Phoenix player Corey Plug proved enough to secure a 1-0 win.

In the men’s social divisions, Old Boys defeated ACC Social 5-0, Phoenix fell short of a big comeback losing 4-3 to Bayswater Social and Sonics triumphed over Rovers Social 3-1.
