Rose show in bloom | The West Australian

A pointed centre, clean foliage and symmetry are three key characteristics that make up the perfect rose, according to the South West Rose Society members.

Sprouting from a group of like-minded rose enthusiasts, the society was formed 19 years ago and encompasses more than 90 members who meet every second month to talk all things roses.

On Saturday they will host their annual rose show, this year’s headlining event for the society.

“The shows used to be held at shopping centres and different venues but this year we are holding it in Eaton,” society president Faye Lewis said.

“Members can stage their roses which will a panel from Perth will judge early Saturday morning.

“The doors will open at midday on Saturday and the public can come in and take a look at the wonderful rose displays.”

Committee member Karin Williams said the event is aimed at showcasing talent in the region as well as encouraging new members to join.

“If you are a novice and spot a rose you like the look of, there will be members on duty who can tell you where to get the rose, how to plant and look after it,” she said.

“A large selection of garden plants will also be for sale.”

The show will be held at the Eaton Sports Club from 12pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday.
