‘Roll up roll up’ Katanning Agricultural Show readies to bring festivities back to town

The Katanning Agricultural Show returns for its 130th anniversary this weekend — and entry is free.

Event organisers are sticking to last year’s record-breaking set-up by using Quartermaine Oval and the top oval along with the Trade Fair Pavilion, Ram Pavilion, Pioneer Room and the shearing shed.

But this year’s show, which is set to run across Friday and Saturday, will feature an additional 40 exhibitors around the grounds over the two days.

Show-goers can see a pet parade at the event for the first time on Saturday, with all pet owners encouraged to bring their animal friends to show off.

The success of last year’s inaugural yard dog trials means they will be run over Friday and Saturday this year, with points awarded at the show to go towards the WA State championships for the first time. The shearing and wool-handling competitions will also return for the first time since 2019, as well the Ausgold fireworks display on Saturday night.

The Ram Pavilion will be a hub for art and laughter for kids, with face painting, balloon twisting, Old MacDonald’s Farm and Mandy’s Music providing fun for the whole family.

Produce from across the Great Southern will feature in the international food court on Quartermaine Oval, along with a chocolate wheel during the day, while the Pioneer Room will host a WA Meat Marking Marketing Co-Operative lamb dinner on Saturday night.

Alongside the food stalls will be the sounds of sideshow alley as some of WA’s biggest rides make their way back to town.
