Rogic says farewell to Celtic with win

Socceroo Tom Rogic has said farewell to Celtic in style as Ange Postecoglou’s Scottish champions celebrated their title win with a 6-0 win over Motherwell.

Celtic celebrated their trophy-collection day at their Parkhead home on Saturday with a merciless mauling of Motherwell as Rogic enjoyed an emotional farewell to the club where’s he’s been a leading figure for nine years.

The Australian midfielder was given a standing ovation in the 18th minute to honour his No.18 shirt.

The Hoops clinched their 10th Premiership title in 11 years at Dundee United on Wednesday night, capping Australian Postecoglou’s brilliant first year in charge.

It ensured there’d be a party in Saturday’s last game of the season – and a double from striker Kyogo Furuhashi, with a goal in-between by David Turnbull, kicked off the fun quickly as Celtic made it 3-0 at the break.

Second-half goals from Portuguese winger Jota and substitute Giorgos Giakoumakis, who netted a double, added to an afternoon of joyous celebrations.

There was more emotion as the long-serving Nir Bitton, who got a sixth minute ovation, and Rogic said their goodbyes.

Postecoglou, Premiership and League Cup winner in his first season in charge, has transformed a club from one which slipped 25 points behind Rangers last season to finishing four ahead of their great rivals.

Rogic started the game to the approval of the excited home support and he nearly ended his Celtic career with a crowning goal when, in the 32nd minute, he slid in to meet Jota’s cross only for his shot to rebound off the post.

However, the offside flag went up for the lurking Hoops striker Maeda.

Amid a slew of substitutions, Rogic was given a standing ovation from the fans when he was taken off just after the hour with Celtic four up and, clearly overcome by emotion, he was embraced by his teammates as he went off for the last time.
