It’s been an interesting, tumultuous seven years since Rita Ora released her debut album in 2012.
In 2015 she parted ways with her record label, Jay Z’s Roc Nation, and the subsequent court battles delayed the release of a new album for years.
Despite this, she never really left the spotlight with the release of chart topping singles, a hosting gig on America’s Next Top Model and even an acting career with the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. She’s collaborated with Iggy Azalea, Charlie XCX and the late Avicii.
Now that the dust has settled, her second album Phoenix is an ode to battles lost and won, the bitterness of failed romances and finding love again.
On Thursday night she truly rose from the ashes to bring that story to her Perth fans.
In her first national tour of Australia, Rita proved worth the wait, delivering a predictably fun and fierce show.
In front of neon-lit phoenix backdrop, the pop diva was in her true element at Metro City, showing off her diverse contributions to the music world with punchy hits like Your Song and her boppy Let You Love Me.
Perhaps influenced by some unusually humid Perth weather, she moved with ease in a white crop and mini pants covered by a sleek black net dress.
